Oldenburg Vineyards is located in the Banghoek Valley (pronounced Bun hook and meaning "scary corner" due to leopards roaming around in times past) - about 8 km from Stellenbosch. The winery is named after the city of Oldenburg in Germany and in memory of the German roots of Helmut Hohmann, the grandfather of the current owner, Adrian. Originally a fruit farm with vineyards being planted in the 1960's, amongst the first in Banghoek since year 2003 the vineyards are completely replanted. The beauty, shape and soil type variations of Rondekop allow the changing microclimates to be used for both Bordeaux and Rhone varietals.
