Viña Maipo is founded in 1948 in Maipo Town, situated 38 kms south of Santiago and located in Maipo Valley, Chile’s most important and renowned winegrowing region. In 1968 Viña Maipo is acquired by Concha y Toro S.A., the biggest Wine Holding in Chile. The first export to Latin America and Europe starts in 1978, but it is not until the year 2000 when Viña Maipo begins to play an important role in the wine market, entirely committed to the international market. Nowadays Viña Maipo is positioned among Chile’s main exporting wineries with presence in more than 60 countries.
The illustration of the church together with the inspiring legend of Maipo town could be found on each Viña Maipo label: “It has been said for centuries in Maipo Town, that its vineyards have been miraculously protected thanks to a tradition. Every year, people gather around Maipo Church to pray or the safeguard of their lands. Surprisingly the vineyards appear to have been protected ever since.”
